Methods of reconstruction of the circumstances of traffic accidents
Institute of Mechanics, Ufa

Abstract

For the reconstruction of the circumstances of vehicle collisions, three main methods are used in world practice. The traditional method is based on the partial application of the law of conservation of energy and has significant limitations on its capabilities. The expanded methodology fully includes the capabilities and apparatus of both the traditional methodology and the dynamics of an undeformed solid body as a whole, and is implemented as an expert system in the form of a computer program. However, for its effective application, the results of numerous crash tests are required to determine the rigidity of the vehicle structure under various loading methods. The most universal and effective method is based on the application of the finite element method, which makes it possible to calculate the laws of the interaction forceschange most accurately during their collision.
